Peace and Forgiving

Today, I spent the night with my youth dearest friends. We ate dinner together while watching a movie about Nelson Mandela called Invictus. The film is very simple, tells how a Nelson Mandela who had just risen to president of South Africa who should meet and interact with people who once hated, even throw him  to prison. I'm very intrigued with the desire and ability to forgive and make peace between the two camps that exist in Southern Africa.

Then I'll just think about my own country, Indonesia, which is so rich with race, ethnicity, religion and language. Our country is multiculturalism that stood on the motto Bhinnekha Tunggal Ika, but it seems many people have forgotten this motto. Even though they may know the meaning of this motto, but they chose not to do so because of a grudge and bitter history with those who are not "fellow". This was a bitter fact, when it is beautiful to live in the midst of Indonesia as a country which have so many diversity, but this beauty is even seen as a knife for a lot of people who do not understand where the beauty is. This is what often triggers feud, even triggering endless revenge but continue to be brought to death.

But everyone want PEACE!! Who the hell in this world doesn't want to live in peace? Then why they keep on arguing each other or even finding other's mistakes just for take another revenge? It's not make sense, doesn't it? But here's the truth among us as Indonesian, as we never ever forget the past which fetter us, even if we know that pluralism which we have is our uniqueness, but still we fight for ourselves. We still fight for our race, our religion, our ethnics. Where is the spirit which brought us to this freedom?

We can start it from ourselves.

No, We SHOULD start it from ourselves!!

Where to start? Of course from forgiving each other. It's really hard to forgive other, especially when they had a big mistake upon us, but we can try it. And not only forgiving they who have that mistakes, but also forgive they who you think are wrong, even they truly wrong or not. Try to accept people as they are, not as we want. Think that they are different not because they are wrong, but because their uniqueness which can't replaced with anything in this world. Try to make the history as our spirit to move on, and as a valuable lessons which can make us better.

I hope this country will be firmly united, sooner or later.
